Romanians Should Protest In The Street To Get Highways – Transports Minister

The Romanian Government would allocate more money for highway construction if people demanded this in the street, Transports Minister Radu Berceanu said Thursday in the Romania Construct Forum 2009 conference, organized by MEDIAFAX.

Berceanu went on to explain that, over the last 20 years, Romanian Governments stated the need for investments into infrastructure, without allocating any funds. According to the minister, a solution to raise money for the construction of highways would be cutting the salaries of public officials in management positions, who earn upwards of 20,000 lei (EUR1=RON4.2930).

Berceanu said two weeks ago that the Transports Ministry wants to obtain a budget of at least RON19 billion next year, compared to RON11 billion in 2009.
