The prime minister said Romania was once Europe’s cereal provider and has the potential to become the exporter of farming products it once was.
"It is in the wisdom of politicians and the government to turn Romania back into an exporter of food products, not an importer. The government will come up with a special program to help the country capitalize this major advantage it has,” Boc said.
He added Romania could take advantage of the economic crisis to seriously reform itself.
"Paradoxically, these hard times may be the perfect opportunity for a new start in Romania. We’ve never had an opportunity like this to restart engines on the path of modernization. It’s time to start modernizing and go all the way,” he said referring to development in infrastructure and agriculture.
Boc is attending the launch of the Democratic Liberal Party’s candidate for mayor of Cluj-Napoca, Sorin Apostu. Boc resigned from the position of mayor of northwestern Romanian city after he was appointed prime minister.
