Trains are halted between 7 and 9 a.m. as unionists and railway company representatives failed to find common ground on signing new collective work contracts.

The seven-hour negotiations held Tuesday failed to convince railway unionists to give up their plan to stage a warning strike, said union federation leader Gheorghe Fratica.

Fratica said about 600 trains were en route during the strike period and over 1,200 trains will be affected and register delays on Wednesday until regular railway traffic is resumed.

Fratica said last week railway workers would stage a warning strike discontent they have not signed new collective work contracts. He added the warning strike may be called off if contracts are signed by March 16.

Also Wednesday, the country’s major trade union federations are expected to stage an ample rally in capital Bucharest, as the Government faces a new vote of no-confidence in Parliament over new labor legislation.
