The drugs weigh 54.16 kilograms and are estimated to be worth EUR2 million.
They said the driver, a Turkish citizen, entered Romania two weeks ago via Giurgiu, southern Romania. He was cleared to reach Bucharest, but was followed by investigators and busted a week later, on Jan 21.
Police found nearly 60 kilograms of heroin in the truck, which was headed for the Netherlands. The driver is under preventive arrest for 29 days.
In the same case, four Turkish citizens, who allegedly organized the transport, were arrested in Turkey. Another Turkish citizen, who was supposed to receive the heroin, was arrested in the Netherlands.
