„There is such a project, along with the Permanent Electoral Authority, there has been this discussion and it has resulted in the need to regulate the situation in which early elections, early parliamentary elections are reached. At present, in the Romanian legislation, there is no precise regulation regarding the early elections, to know clearly that there are constitutional provisions that establish the maximum term for organizing the early elections, since the dissolution of the Parliament is 90 days (60 days – ed. note), therefore it is necessary to adapt the legislation in order to have concrete provisions, in the case of early elections”, has said Ludovic Orban.
At the same time, the prime minister has stressed that the Government cannot issue an emergency decree for the election of mayors in two rounds, because the institution has already assumed responsibility for this provision.
According to MEDIAFAX sources, the Government might adopt an emergency decree for calling early elections. The Executive would make this decision because, in case of dismissal by a no-confidence vote, it could no longer issue an emergency decree, as it would have an interim status.
Thus, the emergency ordinance establishes the composition of the Permanent Electoral Offices, the election constituencies, but also other organizational aspects.
The PSD wants the vote on the no-confidence motion to take place on Wednesday at 12:00. However, the calendar will be set during a meeting of the Permanent Offices, which will be taking place after the Government meeting.
