Flu Causes Four More Deaths As Season Toll Reaches 43

Three men and one woman died because of influenza in Romania over the last couple of days, raising the countrywide death toll to 43 for this flu season. All of the victims were also sufferin other medical conditions and did not receive flu shots.

According to Romania’s National Public Health Institute (INSP), an 87-year old woman from Iasi county, a 49-year old man from Braila car old man from county, a 93-year old man from Bucharest and a 40-year old man from Mures county were the latest victims of the virus, with the country on the verge of declaring an epidemic.

All of the deaths were registered since last Thursday, with the victims found to have other pre-existent medical conditions.

Romanian Health Minister Sorina Pintea announced on Friday that a decision on whether to declare a flu epidemic will be made on Tuesday or Wednesday, after the latest report on the number of new cases will be analyzed.
