The head of state said he held talks with Prime Minister Emil Boc and they agreed to allot the money needed to construct a seven-kilometer dam in Buruienesti and neighboring village Rotunda.

Following Siret overflows early July, hundreds of homes in Buruienesti have been flooded and over 3,000 people have been evacuated.

The president is expected to visit Botosani county also affected by widespread flooding.

Romania has been severely hit by floods over the past two weeks, leaving 23 dead and about 18,000 evacuated and hundreds of homes, roads, farmland and pastures damaged.
