"I hope that end-April we could be able to resume payments through the SAPARD program. We held a technical audit there, as well as talks with the people involved and we found a convenient solution," Sarbu said.
Romanian authorities ceased, in the summer of 2008, the payments made through SAPARD program, following the EC decision to suspend reimbursements because of irregularities found with the Agency for Rural Development and Fishing, which managed the payments.
The EC asked Romania to mend all irregularities by implementing an action plan, and payments are to be reimbursed following an audit-based certification that all problems were solved.
