Liberal Party EU Election List Opener Maintains Past Critical Stances on EU Leaders

TV host Rares Bogdan, who was nominated by Romania’s Liberal Party to open its European Parliament elections list, told MEDIAFAX he “maintains his beliefs” when asked about critical comments he made against EU leaders in 2016 on the subject of security.

The Liberal Party MEP candidate noted however that a decline in recent terrorist attacks showed that Brussels decision makers „were frightened” into acting.

“I maintain my feelings and beliefs. I expressed them in a horrible moment when in Nice, on the French National Day, a madman drove a truck into the crowd celebrating on Promenade des Anglais and killed 86 people, of which ten where children. Europe must become a safe continent again, it is our home and we have the duty to defend it. European leaders failed when they underestimated hate. But we are rational people and we learn from mistakes (…) European leaders are obligated to protect their citizens, and the decline in terrorist attacks lately show us that they were frightened sufficiently to act,” Bogdan told MEDIAFAX.

On July 15, 2016, the TV host wrote on his Facebook page that EU leaders are “villains who will destroy Europe” in the name of “political correctness”, following a terrorist attack in Nice. In a lengthy message, Bogdan said Europe was under terror and criticized EU leaders for not acting against ISIS, while also calling them “liars”.

The Liberal Party announced on Thursday that Rares Bogdan will hold the first spot on its European election candidate list.
