Over 50% Of Websites Selling Airplane Tickets Breach European Legislation- EU Commissioner
During September 24-28, 2007, the European Commission checked the websites of both large airline companies and low-cost airliners unfolding activities in 15 EU states, among which, Austria, Belgium, Bulgaria, Cyprus, Denmark, Estonia, France, Greece, Lithuania, Malta, Portugal, Spain and Sweden. Moreover, it also checked other websites that sell airplane tickets.
Of the total 446 websites checked, 226 do not observe the European regulations for consumer protection, given their misleading ads.
Kuneva cared to stress that the names of the airline companies infringing the European regulations will not go public. However, the authorities in each of the aforementioned countries shall ask these companies to take the necessary measures in this respect.
Kuneva pointed out that harsh measures will be taken against website owners failing to correct all irregularities and observe the law. Moreover, the names of the airliner infringing the European regulations will definitely go public if they show reluctance in the process.
