The court sentenced pimps Armand Soni Ceanac and Vasile Chira to life in prison for aggravated murder and to 15 years in prison for human trafficking, while female pimp Constantina Petre was convicted to 30 years in prison.

Ioana Busuioc, also charged with human trafficking, had already served a four-year life sentence.

On April 25, 2008, the Bucharest Court ruled to place the four defendants under arrest on charges of human and drug trafficking. Investigations at that time on illegal heroin trade revealed that three of them had been involved in the killing of Mirela Buju, back in 2002.

According to prosecutors, Ceanac, Petre and Chira „recruited” Buju around Easter, back in 2002, and forced her to work as prostitute, although Buju told them she was not a prostitute and that she even had a little child in care. Seeing that Buju would not give in, Chira and Ceanac beat her to death and then disposed of the body, which was later found by police officers.
