Romanian PM Wants No Vacation For Public Servants Handling EU-Funded Projects

Romanian Prime Minister Emil Boc on Thursday urged the heads of decentralized services to ban public servants approving European Union-funded projects from going on vacation, in order to contract EU funds time and avoid losing them.

"No public servant directly or indirectly involved in the authorization and submission of these projects shall go on vacation. I am referring to environment bodies, state construction inspectorate and other decentralized services approving projects submitted by local authorities," Boc said in a speech delivered Thursday in front of the heads of decentralized services, local authorities and lawmakers in Calarasi county, southeastern Romania.

Boc pointed out that one of these programs, which requires that funding requests for over EUR700 million be submitted and approved until the end of the year, targets the development of villages.
