Local emergency inspectorate spokesperson Diana Vlaia said the plane managed to land safely and none of the passengers were injured.

The SAAB 2000 flew over the airport for an hour and a half to use up its fuel and avoid a potential explosion or a fire in case of an emergency landing.

The Transport Ministry sent a commission to Timisoara to investigate the incident.

Airline officials said the problem was likely at the plane’s undercarriage, but the plane hasn’t suffered any major damage and investigations will establish what went wrong.

Carpatair president Nicolae Petrov said passengers are stressed, but none was in shock.

Carpatair flies on routes of up to 1,000 kilometers in Romania, Italy, Greece and the Republic of Moldova.
