The court ordered the agency is to pay Mazare 5,000 lei (EUR1=RON4.3523) moral claims and RON2,380 in legal expenses.
The ruling, passed Tuesday by the Court of Appeals in Galati, eastern Romania, is not final and the agency may appeal it with the High Court of Justice within 15 days, court spokeswoman Irina Boldea said Wednesday.
The integrity agency had found Mazare was incompatible with public office for six months in 2003, when he was both mayor and administrator of a commercial company. Mazare contested the agency’s findings and filed a lawsuit to have them annulled saying the country’s Trade Registry office had erroneously registered the respective company’s documents.
