The local county police said traffic throughout the passageway was not impaired by the incidents.
Drivers said they broke their radiators, grease-cups and damaged their tires driving over the lid and had to be towed out of the passage.
Builders of the passageway arrived at the scene and fixed the sewer lid, saying they couldn’t explain the incidents. The drivers plan to sue the builders for damage claims.
The underground passageway was opened to traffic Wednesday morning in the presence of transport minister Ludovic Orban. The passageway cost EUR7 million and was funded from the state budget and the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development, the ministry said in a statement Wednesday.
