Romanian Transport Min Mulls Upgrading Cap City’s Rail Beltway By 2011

Romanian transport ministry mulls upgrading the rail beltway of the country’s capital city Bucharest in the next three years, transport minister Ludovic Orban said Monday.

The ministry will double the railway lines and will render them electrical, the trains touching a speed by up to 100 km/hour.

Orban did not reveal the value of the investment.

"We will know the value of the investment in six or eight months, after drafting the feasibility study. Anyway, this will not be a big investment," Orban said.

The 62- kilometer long rail beltway will be parallel to Bucharest ring road, with some links inside the city.

The ministry will buy new trains, similar with Sageata Albastra model.
