Candidates for a seat in Parliament or a position in the local public administration must be at least 23, and candidates for head of state must be at least 35, reads the bill.
President Traian Basescu on Wednesday sent the bill revising the Constitution to the Legislative Council for a standpoint.
After the council issues a standpoint on the bill, the draft act will be sent to the Constitutional Court, which will check whether it is constitutional.
The bill, together with the standpoint of the Legislative Council and the decision of the Constitutional Court, will be forwarded to the Parliament to be debated and put to the vote.
The head of state said recently the bill revising the Constitution implements the results of the national referendum held on November 21, 2009, when Romanians voted for a single-chamber Parliament with 300 lawmakers, as well as many of the decisions of the Constitutional Court, which clarify several articles of the current fundamental law.
