Basescu visited Saturday the Cardiology Hospital in Covasna, central Romania, and said the healthcare sector, especially when it comes to hospitals, equipments, staff and conditions offered to patients, is in a deplorable state.
He added the situation is quite hard to explain, considering funds assigned to healthcare are double compared to 2004, when he took office, and said the issue is one of defective management. The president also said a similar situation is to be found in the education sector.
Basescu said the Health Ministry preferred to focus on drugs, forgetting that a vital part of the system, hospitals, is in a very bad shape.
In the same context, the president referred to the education system saying a lot of money has been invested in school repairs, but the quality of education continues to be poorer each year.
