Conservative president Daniela Popa confirmed for Mediafax reporters that she has received the invitation, mentioning the only theme on the meeting’s agenda will be the EC’s report on justice progress.
The consultations are scheduled a day ahead of the extraordinary meeting of Romanian deputies, during which the MPs will vote on whether to allow criminal probes against former premier Adrian Nastase and former transportation minister Miron Mitrea.
The European Commission has recently released its country report on Romania, in which it has criticized the country’s poor results in fighting corruption, especially at high levels.
Despite the criticism, Romania managed to avoid sanctions from the authorities in Brussels, unlike its fellow newcomer Bulgaria.
