In its latest business and consumer survey, the Commission said confidence in the Romanian industry inched up one point to minus 9 in March, while consumer and retail trade confidence rose by two points each to minus 47 and minus 10, respectively.

Confidence in the services sector increased by three points to minus 4, whereas the construction sector saw a one-point decline to minus 43.

Consumer confidence fell 8 points to minus 56 in May, the data showed.

In the EU, economic sentiment decreased 1.9 points to 100, but the Commission notes the May data are influenced by the change of classification of economic activities that was implemented for the business surveys, leading to a break in the series.

The eurozone economic sentiment indicator was down 2.2 points to 98.4 in May.
