„Total revenue from the minimum tax reached RON592.82 million in the first two quarters following the introduction of the minimum tax, namely from the operations in the second and third quarters of 2009,” ANAF’s president Sorin Blejnar told MEDIAFAX.
Blejnar said the figure, amounting to 0.12% of the gross domestic product estimated for 2009, includes write-offs from compensations with other types of taxes or with the value added tax rate, rectifiable discounts and taxpayer record updates.
Under a government act enforced May 1, companies must pay a yearly minimum tax based on their revenue. The minimum tax ranges from RON2,200 a year for total revenue below RON52,000 and RON43,000 a year for revenue exceeding RON129 million.
The minimum tax has been harshly criticized by both businessmen and politicians, who argued many small businesses could go belly-up following the measure.
