"Mister Constantin’s resignation arrived via fax at he Romanian Football Federation. I do not know the reasons for his resignation nor do I wish to comment on it,” Petrescu said.

Constantin is under arrest along Arges football club owner Cornel Penescu and other two officials in Arges, on bribery charges involving several football matches. The local court decided Tuesday to place the four under arrest for 29 days. An appeal for their release is pending a ruling.
