A government decision published in Romania’s Official Journal Thursday states the country will grant Japan emergency humanitarian aid in the form of 30,000 liters of flat, bottled mineral water, which shouldn’t cost more than RON50,000, and costs are exclusive of transport.
The water is to be taken out from the country’s state reserves, which will be replenished in 2012.
However, the Government has allotted RON383,000 to the Foreign Ministry to transport the water to Tokyo, a sum seven times higher than the cost of the water itself. The government document also states that any money left unspent by the Foreign Ministry will be refunded to the Government’s budget reserve fund.
On March 11, Japan was hit by a powerful 8.9 degrees earthquake, followed by numerous aftershocks, and a devastating tsunami.
