He said prices for most drugs will remain unchanged after recalculation.
“The negotiations with representatives of the pharmaceutical industry ended last week with an order that sets up the new computing methodology for medicine prices for a determined period – until December 31, 2008. The methodology includes only prices for compensated and free drugs. Prices for Romanian and imported medicine included in CANAMED (the National Medicine Catalogue of Romania – e.n.) but not admitted on the list of compensated and free drugs remain unchanged,” Nicolaescu said.
He mentioned medicine suppliers are to deliver new stocks to drugstores once the new methodology is published in the Official Gazette today.
The new prices will be applied as of Friday, October 31.
Early October, Romanian medicine suppliers halted deliveries to drugstores pending price negotiations with the Health Ministry.
Suppliers demanded drug prices should be adjusted to the recent development of exchange rates.
