The Social Democratic party withdrew Monday the political support of interior minister Gabriel Oprea after the latter appointed people in key positions within the ministry without consulting with party leaders. Party leader Geoana added a proposal to oust Oprea from the party altogether will be discussed by the party’s integrity commission.
Geoana also proposed that social democrat deputy prime minister Dan Nica should act as interim interior minister until the party appoints a new candidate.
Social democrat official Marian Vanghelie said late Monday on a TV show that social democrats will pull out of the center-left coalition government unless the prime minster sacks Oprea.
