Prosecutors with the Central Office of the Organized Crime and Terrorism Investigations Department (DIICOT), together with officers of the General Police Inspectorate – Anti-drug Service- caught Voicu on Tuesday while attempting to sell a kilo of heroin for EUR18,000, DIICOT said Thursday.

Romanian Football Federation spokesman Paul Zaharia told MEDIAFAX that Voicu works as a masseur for the “under 17” group of the Romanian national football team. Zaharia said that Voicu was not a full-time employee, but only worked during certain events of the team.

The 44-year old man was put in preventive custody for 29 days on charges of traffic of high-risk drugs. Investigators have found the man is a recidivist, having been sentenced to four years in prison in 2006, suspended under supervision for the same crime.
