The compensated drug program for pensioners, approved by the Government Wednesday, becomes affective as of March 1. According to the government decision, the 90% discount will be covered by the National Health and Social Security Fund (50%) and the budget of the Ministry of Health (40%).
"At difficult times like these, we need to reassess priorities and particularly help the neediest categories. Subsidizing 90% of drug prices for pensioners with low income was a promise and priority of the government, which becomes reality today,” health minister Ion Bazac said Sunday.
Pensioners with incomes exceeding RON600 will continue to benefit from a 50% discount for drugs.
According to official statistics, Romania has about 3.080 million pensioners whose monthly pension is lower than RON600.
