Romanian Tourism Minister Requests Extra Funds For Infrastructure Development
According to Udrea, the money for ROP Axis 4, „Strengthening the regional and local business environment,” has not been used, as the program is difficult to implement in Romania „because of the local conditions.” On the other hand, tourism is always in need of investments, she said.
Udrea went on to say that the ministry will ask the Committee in May to transfer more than EUR200 million to Axis 5.2 from Axis 4 and direct the funds towards projects being developed in spa towns. She argued that Romania has a competitive advantage as regards balneary tourism, but that the field needs infrastructure and specific regulations.
The tourism minister said she aims to modernize balneary tourism, make it internationally competitive and popular with young people.
