STB representatives told MEDIAFAX that the fines are not yet in force, with an official announcement to be made regarding the date from which they will be applied.

They also announced that they will maintain current options to pay lesser fines, either an overtax of RON50 on the spot or half of the total fine within 15 days at their local directorate for taxes and levies.

The fines would also apply for other breaches of passenger regulations, including not paying for an additional trip if transporting baggage which occupy another seat or blocking the access doors.

Another new provision will force monthly STB subscription owners to validate their transportation card regardless, or risk a reduced fine if caught.
