The flight, operated by Romanian national airline Tarom, was cancelled due to technical malfunctions. Until the aircraft is repaired and the flight is rescheduled, the Romanian tourists will be accommodated at hotels near the Madrid-Barajas airport.

The Romanian consulate in Madrid is currently handling this situation as its top priority.

A similar incident happened last weekend in Lisbon, when dozens of Romanian tourists were stuck in the airport after TAP Portugal cancelled its Bucharest-bound flight twice. Romanian Prime Minister Mihai Tudose then dismissed Romanian consul in Portugal Alina Oana Dociu, as he considered she had mismanaged the situation.
