Discovery To Launch TLC Channel In Romania In Jan 2011

Discovery's TLC will be launched in Romania on January 20, 2011, and the channel will be initially distributed both in analog and digital formats by telecom operator UPC Romania, Discovery Networks representatives told a news conference Tuesday.

TLC is owned by Discovery Communications and is one of the most appreciated women-oriented television networks in the United States.

TLC broadcasting will be ensured by UPC Romania and distribution will be widened if other cable and satellite TV operators are interested in the project.

Ada Roseti, channel director for Discovery Romania, Hungary, the Czech Republic and Slovakia, said that the configuration of TLC Romania was based on a study conducted on six European markets, which aimed to determine how women define their femininity and the problems they are faced with.

TLC is available in 29 countries in Europe, Asia and South America and in 2011 it will be launched on over 75 markets.

TLC is owned by Discovery Communications, which also includes Discovery Channel and Animal Planet.

Discovery Networks is present in Romania with seven TV channels: Discovery Channel, Animal Planet, Discovery World, Discovery Science, Discovery Travel&Living, Discovery HD Showcase and ID Investigation Discovery.
