Leaders of Romania’s four large union confederations met with President Traian Basescu on Friday, and asked him not to promulgate the 2008 state budget law the parliament approved last week

The Romanian Parliament has approved Thursday the state and social insurance budgets, with the majority of the funds going to education, health, agriculture and infrastructure, Prime Minister Calin Popescu Tariceanu said Thursday.

Romanian Prime Minister Calin Tariceanu asked lawmakers to forget political feuds and voter-friendly actions and vote for the 2008 state budget, which he said is balanced and allows the country to continue developing.

Romania’s leftist opposition Social Democratic Party, or PSD, decided Monday to invite all parliament parties for talks this week on the 2008 state budget draft.
