"Tourism as a 100% private economic sector doesn’t need a ministry. We only need a ministry until problems in the tourism sector are brought among real priorities. I think we need I now, but I don’t think we’ll need it ten years from now, when things will be ok,” Basescu said during a meeting of the Consultative Council in Tourism, chaired by tourism minister Elena Udrea.

The president added a government agency to promote Romania internationally would be enough, when the ministry is disbanded.

The Consultative Council in Tourism comprises representatives of the Tourism Ministry, of employers’ associations and trade unions and of national professional associations that operate in the sector.

Monday’s meeting was held at the Black Sea resort in Neptun, southeastern Romania.

The Council discussed a series of propositions for the tourism Law and watched the advertising clips promoting Romania as a tour destination, which will be broadcast on Eurosport and CNN.
