Flu Epidemic Death Toll Reaches 109

An 81-year old woman from Bucharest and a 79-year old man from Olt county both succumbed to type A influenza, the former also suffering from other medical conditions, according to the National Public Health Institute. None of the victims were immunized against the disease.

The disease’s death toll reached 109 for the season.

Romania’s Health Ministry declared a nationwide flu epidemic on January 30, following three consecutive weeks in which the numbers of new infection cases surpassed initial estimates.
