Galati Local Council Fulfils Dream Of Romanian Private Killed In Afghanistan

The family of Romanian second lieutenant (post-mortem) Ionut Cosmin Sandu, killed in Afghanistan last Thursday, will get a new two room- apartment from the Local Council of Galati town, southeastern Romania.

"Ionut Cosmin Sandu had one wish: to earn enough money to build a home for his family. We decided to offer his family a two-room apartment of 81 square meters. I shall forward this proposal to the Galati Local Council, but I doubt our proposal will face obstacles in its way toward approval.  Moreover, we want Sandu to become honorific citizen at the solicitation of the Dunarea de Jos Society of Journalists, but of course, our actions could never take away the pain and ordeal his family is going through," Galati mayor, Dumitru Nicolae, told a press conference Monday.  
 
The lifeless body of the lieutenant was repatriated Sunday.
 
Sandu was brought Sunday to the Bobocu air base, eastern Romania, where a military-religious ceremony was held. The ceremony was attended by defense minister Teodor Melescanu.
 
 
Sandu will be buried Tuesday in Galati.
 
 
The minister of defense promoted Sandu post mortem Friday, at the proposal of the head of General Staff.
