In order to retain the group, police officers were forced to make use of their fire arms, as six shots were fired into the air, to avoid the occurrence of injuries or the violation of neighboring state soil, according to the Romanian General Inspectorate of Border Police.

According to the quoted source, the people arrested are of Indian origin, men with ages ranging between 16 and 53, and they intended to reach western Europe. Four of them were physically exhausted and hypothermic and they were taken to the hospital in Sighetul Marmatiei to receive medical assistance.

There were also two Ukrainian guides in the raft carrying the migrant group, but they failed to comply with police orders and managed to return to Ukrainian soil.
