Romanian Prime Minister Emil Boc said Saturday the Government is having trouble paying people expropriated for infrastructure works and the matter could have been solved a lot cheaper in the '90s.

The Romanian Transports and Infrastructure Ministry will increase the area to be expropriated for the construction of the city of Cluj-Napoca’s beltway by 210,000 square meters and will pay 12.51 million lei (EUR1=RON4.2114) for some 200 plots.

The commission for public administration in the Romanian Senate gave the go-ahead to government emergency decree 12/2009 allowing the start of expropriations for the construction of the Basarab Passageway in capital Bucharest.

The Romanian Ministry of Transport will grant additional compensations worth RON3.57 (EUR1 = RON3.5434) million for the expropriation of 37 pieces of property with a total surface of 8,354 square meters, for works on national road DN1 and the north side of the ring road around Bucharest.

The Romanian government will pay compensations of 7.1 million lei (EUR1=RON3.6612) to six companies, among which retailer Selgros Cash&Carry and lender Banca Transilvania, and several individuals, for ten plots of land in northern Bucharest needed for the construction of a passageway.
